The Woodhall Spa Branch

There are nearly 1,500 RNLI fundraising branches and guilds in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Through the membership of these bodies the RNLI can call on the talents and experience of thousands of individuals, from all walks of life, who give up their time in the pursuit of saving lives at sea. Alongside the lifeboat crews these fundraising branches and guilds are the bedrock of the RNLI.

The Woodhall Spa branch is small but works hard to play its part in supporting the RNLI. The branch was formed in February 1999. It works with a committee of 10 which has the support of a group of helpers who will turn out for fundraising events. The current membership is 56.

Money is raised by the branch for the RNLI by various means:
  • Branch subscriptions
  • Flag days and street collections
  • Collection boxes in local establishments
  • Donations
  • Lotteries
  • Branch events such as coffee mornings
  • The sale of RNLI merchandise at local events

In the five financial years since its formation the branch has raised £26,881. Of this only £129.56 has been spent on branch administration. Costs have been incurred in the organisation of branch events, such as the hire of rooms for coffee mornings. The total for these for the five year period is £1543. So, after deducting these expenses from the money raised, the branch has been able to pass on £25,299 to the RNLI.

It may be noted that the costs of raising money are only 6% of the total. In part this is due to members of the branch who have given freely of their time and of donations in the form of the provision of equipment, stationary, stamps, telephone expenses, and the like.

This chart shows the proportions of money raised from the various activities.
